Soon, we'll be opening our gates for intentional visits to the ranch. These small-group experiences will offer time to connect with the animals, explore the gardens, and enjoy the slower pace of nature. It's not just a tour-it's a chance to breathe deep and feel grounded.

Slowing things down.

With everything going on and waiting to hear what our next steps might be for the alpacas, I needed a moment to breathe and focus on what is steady and good right now.

The garden even in its winter state is still surprising us with tomatoes, cabbage, and basil. The bees are loving the basil blooms, and the bunnies are happily sharing some cabbage with us. Little reminders that life keeps growing, even in the quiet seasons.

I spent some extra time grooming and cuddling with Hazel today, making sure she’s cleaned up and ready for winter. There’s something healing about caring for the animals who depend on us, especially when everything feels uncertain.

Just trying to move forward one small step at a time and pay attention to what’s still going well.🐰

A Hard Goodbye at Wild Juniper Ranch

Early this morning, our sweet Patriesse passed away at Texas A&M. We are heartbroken. We did everything we could to get her to the best care possible, and we’re grateful she was in the hands of one of the leading veterinary teams in the country. Even they were shocked and stumped by what happened, unable to identify a clear cause. We’re hoping the necropsy will give us answers so we can protect the rest of our herd.

Losing an alpaca especially in our first year, and especially one as young, bright, and full of life as Patriesse feels heavy. She brought such youth, energy, and sweetness to our ranch. Her absence already echoes through the paddock.

This loss also lands on a year that has already held more grief than our family ever expected. Between Ryan losing his brother, and me losing my dad, along with two other dear family members on both sides, we are simply worn thin. We are ready, deeply ready to close the chapter on loss and step into a new year rooted in life, abundance, and growth.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in, offered support, or simply held space for our family and our animals. We’re leaning on that kindness today.

Here’s to Patriesse, and to hoping that 2026 brings more light than loss. 🤎🦙

A tough update from Wild Juniper Ranch. Yesterday our sweet girl Patriesse, the youngest and usually most energetic member of our alpaca herd, went down unexpectedly. After an emergency visit from our vet, we transported her to Texas A&M for advanced care, a first for us and a big learning experience.

This morning she underwent a spinal tap and bloodwork. Right now the A&M team suspects meningeal worm, which is heartbreaking to hear, especially since our paddock is so dry this season and our herd has been on preventative treatment. We’re waiting on results to confirm the diagnosis and guide next steps.

Pure Charm traveled with her as a companion and potential blood donor, and we’ve brought her back home while we wait. We’re holding onto hope and incredibly grateful for the skill and guidance of the A&M veterinarians.

As hard as this is, we’re learning a lot not only about herd health and what we want to do moving forward, but also about caring for our animals in emergencies, transporting alpacas safely, and using our truck and trailer together with confidence.
